"It is our pleasure to recommend John Bayreuther and Canada Dog Training. He has been our dog trainer for more than two years now, and we have seen incredible results with our Dalmatian, Sera. When we first adopted Sera from the Montreal SPCA, she was so unruly that we couldn't even walk her on a leash because she would lunge at people and bark at everything. She also suffered from separation anxiety as well as anxiety with unfamiliar people and dogs.
The training sessions we had with John taught us how to shape Sera's behaviour by giving her clear, consistent commands and rewarding her when she listens. He also taught us how to assess Sera's stress level, and how to gradually increase her confidence so that she would feel more comfortable in unfamiliar situations. We've always believed that humans need training as much as the dogs do, and one of the things we liked best about John is that he always made sure to teach us the right techniques to facilitate sera's training. It is amazing how much of a difference the right techniques make. For example, Sera used to lunge and use her teeth when taking treats from people, but after John taught us a new way to hold her treats, she now takes treats gently, and we never have to worry about nipped fingers. We also benefited from John's expertise outside the classroom. John made it clear to us we could always ask him questions and he was often available by phone if we had questions between training sessions.
Today Sera ia a much happier dog. She enjoys showing off her tricks, playing fetch, and taking nice walks. She can even heel on leash, which we consider to be one of John's most impressive achievements, considering that she didn't even know how to walk on a leash before we started working with him! Thanks to John Sera has mastered all of the intermediate obedience commands and she is eagerly looking forward to starting dog agility classes with John this spring."
